FINISHING

Fold top of stocking over at yo row and sew down all around.

BRAIDED I-CORD HANGER

With double pointed needle, cast on 4 sts.  Work I-Cord until length is about 10”.  Work 2 more I-CORDS using different color combinations, if desired.  Braid strips together, pulling lengthwise when crossing over.  Attach to back of stocking.

FELTING

Put stocking in garment bag or zippered pillowcase cover.  Set washing machine to hot water temperature*, low water level, and high agitation (heavy duty cycle).  Add a very small amount of detergent.  Check stocking about every five minutes until desired level of felting is achieved.  Squeeze out excess water and roll in towel to extract as much water as possible.  Lay flat and shape.  Continue to turn over and shape until stocking is dry.

A name can then be needle felted on at the top of the stocking.

*If using hand-dyed or hand-painted yarn and worried about the color running in hot water, cold water may be used to felt but felting will take much longer.
